Rumis #1

My post is so late! Aaaaah! Forgive me!

I have a feeling there will be a lot of these posts where I start to want to talk about something and then think of something else that would make a better post but it’s a jumbled assortment of thoughts. We’ll call this series, that will be as random as my mind, rumis as in ruminations of Nel.

A couple amazing people I’ve met through here, I talk to on an almost hourly basis. I love technology because even though we are all in different parts of the globe, we’re able to talk, laugh, cry and be happy together. The individuals I’m referring to, I consider family. I was talking with one the other day and we were discussing that phrase, “You can’t choose your family.” My instant reaction was, “yes I can.” It was a knee jerk response. But then I thought about it and I truly believe you can choose your family. Peela, I’m putting you on blast right now, has been more of a sister than me than my actual blood sister ever has. I mean that is a profound statement to make but it’s sadly true. I only interact with my family on maybe three occasions a year, if that. It’s hard to want to be around people who are constantly competing with each other or are magnets for drama. I have enough drama elsewhere in my life not to want to have to take it from my family too you know?

I started blogging back in February and since then, I can make a whole list of people who are family. Family doesn’t have to be, to steal a quote from Game of Thrones, blood of my blood. I like to be around open-minded, understanding, hilarious, generous individuals. These are like minded people to me. They boost my confidence to continue being my silly, positive, sometimes brutally honest, very emotional self. They expect nothing less from me. Actually they expect nothing at all from me except to continually strengthen this bond we have so that it lasts forever. When a person like that is staring you in the face, how can you not call them family? I mean if you are willing to listen to me rant about everything under the sun from my crappy day to my political views and still love me anyway, you are simply everything.

Anyway, keeping this post short today. I also want to point out that I’ve gotten into the habit of sending people mail and/or care packages (if you’ve never had a Reese Cup, I’m sending you one so you better mention that in the comments below). I want to say that my life is pretty hectic but I haven’t forgotten mail or letters I’ve received from some of my family and I hope to get letters and packages out in the mail before my Orlando weekend getaway later this month.

I love you all! You’re amazing! I hope you’re having wonderful days!

    1. ❀ Thanks Susan. I love you right back! Hey! Maybe one day we’ll get to meet one day since you’re on the east cost now! Woot woot!

  1. Wow, this is such a wonderful post, Nel. I’ve heard that statement so many times “You can’t choose your family.” I don’t believe that either. I have in-laws that believe that blood is all that matters and anyone else that isn’t their blood isn’t worth anything. I think just the opposite and consider anyone I love and care about to be family, and that includes you. Unfortunately, I’m not close with the majority of my blood relatives and I choose that because like you, I don’t want the drama. Sometimes life is just better without those kind of people in your life. It’s sad to say, but it’s true.

You’re a great person, Nel, and a wonderful friend. ❀

    1. I’m so glad you agree with me Jenn. Yes, it is quite unfortunate about our blood relatives but hey, we found each other and I consider you family too πŸ™‚ Life is definitely much better without the negativity. I mean talk about stress relievers right?

You are an amazing person yourself! I can’t say it enough! ❀ ❀

  2. What a sweet, wonderful post, Nel! This post beautifully showcases your personality – the reason why I love you so much! It’s really amazing to see how close you can get to someone on the other side of the globe… hurray to the internet!! I’m so happy to have met you and become friends with you!! And oh, I’m waiting for your care package and you can expect mine as well πŸ™‚

    1. ❀️❀️❀️ Yes! Yours is hitting the mail by the end of this week. Think I’m gonna go with a box instead of a padded envelope. Hopefully customs in Japan are as lax as Sri Lanka’s were haha.

        1. 😁😁 well I have been told I’m really mature for my age but I’m also told I’m super goofy too hahaha! Age ain’t nothing but a number sweet Nori πŸ’•

  3. This internet thing is pretty amazing isn’t it? Making intimate strangers of us, and if we’re lucky, forging true friendships that we can rely on, no matter what. It’s lovely to read that you have found that through blogging since it can be such an egocentric thing, all about likes and follows. As others said, you are amazing! Keep being you, you make the world a better place πŸ™‚ (A Reese Cup is a peanut butter thing right?)

    1. Ms. Bad you too??!?!? If you aren’t opposed to sending me your address in a private message, I’m deadly serious about sending you a Reese Cups. I’ll even throw in some buckeyes! I promise I’m not a crazy, stalker psycho hahaha.
And yes, I completely agree with you. I marvel the geniuses who invent these things! Also agree about the egocentric bloggers part too. I’ve had to unfollow a few in my months of blogging cause all they talked about was getting more clicks. I want to get to know people; make more friends; read awesome, sexy short stories by talented writers. πŸ˜‰

      1. I DO love chocolate and peanut butter but we do get Reeses here, not Buckeyes though, they look delish! I know you’re not a stalker and you are so sweet to offer but you just go ahead and eat what you would have sent πŸ™‚

        1. In that case, you should definitely eat a Reeses for yourself! It’s chocolate peanut butter heaven! They even make a cereal called Reese Puffs cause Reeses are so popular!

          1. We don’t have the cereal, we are so deprived! But I have had a Reeses cup but many years ago. Next shopping day I will look for some and treat myself in your honor πŸ™‚

            1. Hooraaay! My friend in Sri Lanka said they are candy sex and you can do some very interesting things with the mini ones if you follow my train of thinking πŸ˜‰. That’s a story I’m sure you will have no problem imagining.

  4. Aww I love this post and I agree that family doesn’t have to be “blood of my blood” (gotta love GOT references πŸ˜‰ you know that’s totally irresistible to me πŸ˜‰ ) I have blood relatives I’m not close to (pahaha to put it lightly) and for the ones I am close to, it’s not because of blood ties. I do feel like I have a family online and genuinely care about so many people on here- and of course you’re one of those people cos you’re awesome!! πŸ˜€ ❀
Also ps I have had Reese Cups before, cos my brother’s married to an American, so he’s been to the states a few times (for the chocolate, obviously πŸ˜‰ )

    1. Hehehe, I can’t resist the GOT references ever. I say, “winter is coming” on a semi regular basis cause I live in a state that’s slowly getting colder and I know snow is just around the corner! I care about you too!!!!! I’m so glad we’re family πŸ™‚
Hahaha! What part of America is your brother’s wife from? And good thing cause I would have mailed you Reeses! There’s another blogger who lives in Japan that is getting Reese Cups in like 2 or 3 weeks. However long it takes for my package to travel there. Took 2 weeks to get to Sri Lanka. Think Japan will be longer.

      1. Hehehehe that’s brilliant! πŸ˜‚ I say it to people all the time, whether they get the reference or not πŸ˜‰ awww absolutely πŸ™‚ hehehe New York and wow yeah that’d probably be about two to three weeks (I think!!! I’ve never sent anything to Asia before, so I’m not an expert lol!! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚)
