The Future

How often do you think about the future? I don’t mean in terms of your short or long term goals but in terms of innovation! While driving to work, I have this habit of looking around at houses and land and all that jazz because I have dreams of my husband and I building our own house one day with solar shingles and geothermal and all the good stuff! Not exactly a smart house but a sustainable one. We don’t want to go completely off grid, in fact, we’re such technological information hogs that we want to very much stay on the grid but we do care about the environment and the direction our mother Earth is going and try to do much as we can in a small city.

So anyway, I was thinking about all this cool tech and possible inventions that could come out in the future. I have to admit, some of it comes from watching the Netflix series Altered Carbon but some of these ideas I’ve had on my own. For example, wouldn’t it be SUPER COOL if glasses wearing people like me had mini windshield wipers on their lenses?? It would be a huge help when you’re walking outside with no umbrella or even just to give your lenses a good clean every once in a while because glasses are microscopic, dirt attracting magnets and trying to clean them without leaving streaks is such a pain! I realize that’s probably why contacts were existed but again, for people like me who eyeball touching makes me squeamish, having wipers on my glasses would be a godsend!

Another thing I thought would be cool is if they made VR (virtual reality for those unfamiliar with the term) glasses that you could use for book but that could like connect to your brain and project your imagination while you read! Think about it, when you read a book, you imagine what the characters look like, what the setting looks like, all the action scenes, the love scenes, the tragic scenes. The VR would be able to grab this picture out of your head and project it while you read. Maybe the story words pop up inside the VR off to the side and things just start appearing as you read. I mean I already love the immersion in my head so I can only imagine my scenes being played out before me. It would be sort of like being your own movie director in your own home.

Lastly, so the post doesn’t get crazy long cause I have so many ideas, is of course a teleport machine but specifically for travelling not for everything cause that’s just a bit too lazy for me. I always think about how it would be cool if we could travel to our dream destinations in minutes instead of many hours, half of which are spent in an airport due to layover. Or even just visiting that online friend you’ve gotten to know over many months and finally want to meet but they’re marginally far away. Or, not even just for fun but for emergencies. I’m obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy and you know sometimes they have the tragic episodes where patients can’t get to the hospital in time to be saved from dying so I think it would be cool to be able to transport someone who’s life is in danger to any world renowned hospital in a couple minutes. I don’t know how it would work exactly since I don’t think we’ll ever be advanced enough to disintegrate our solid bodies into tiny particles to be transported and then reformed at our destination but it would still be cool! However, I think we’ll get slightly close with the Elon Musks of the world looking to make Hyper Loops reality.

I could go on but I wan’t to know what type of ideas do you all think would be cool if they were invented for the future? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. I have to admit that I think about it often! Technology is amazing and who knows where we’ll be in 20-30 years. I can only hope environmental technology will become more affordable so we can stop leaving such a huge economical footprint. With that said, I do still love technology and appreciate that we have it. I’m really hopeful that in the future they will have cloned/produced organs to help people who need replacements so we won’t be dependant on others. That’s a huge one for me.

    Thanks for sharing, Nel! πŸ’–πŸ˜‰

    1. It is! I just thought about what my tomorrow subject may be piggybacking off this one. I agree with the cloned organs. So far they’re taking a step in the right direction though! Not sure if you’ve seen this before but they do 3D print organs and then inject the recipient’s cells inside so it prints a compatible organ.

      Glad you enjoyed this! πŸ™‚

      1. Yes! It’s crazy how far they’ve come. I just hope they can put the procedures in motion so that it works for all. The 3D printing is also scary though in that you can print so many different things, including weapons. That’s a discussion in itself! πŸ˜‰

  2. I want to use a teleportation device to go wherever I want while wearing glasses with little windshield wipers. It would make the Amazon infinitely easier to enjoy! It’s so wet there. If they can make wipers for headlights then they should be able to make the little ones for glasses. I think you should patent it!

    1. Linda you genius! Thats the perfect place to test out both of those inventions! Haha I wish I had the genetic capacity to create and patent this type of stuff!

  3. I too think a lot about the future and technology. I guess it’s on a lot of peoples mind. … It terrifies and excites me. I don’t want to the world to end up like some type of “Matrix” nor do I want the poor to have to live underground. It excites me because of like you said possible teleporting, VR thought is cool, medical emergencies extremely convenient….I watch a lot of sci-fi and I think I have become a little nervous or more scared than I want to admit…..Great post Nel! πŸ™‚

    1. Oh yes. I know what you mean Robin about how it’s terrifying and exciting at the same time. Everytime I watch an episode of Black Mirror I’m like “omg, I hope that’s never real”, lol. Yes, I think of things that could just make everyday life just a tiny bit similar without going overboard. I’m glad you enjoyed this post! πŸ˜€

  4. The future of technology worries me. In all honesty, I’ve probably seen too many movies about tech gone wrong. I think it was said best in Battlestar Galactica – scientists seem to be far too busy wondering if they CAN do things and not worried enough about whether they SHOULD do them.

I do like your idea about the wipers on glasses though. That would be cool.

    1. First off, I love that show. Adore it. Honestly I think it’s a good mix to have. I mean you don’t know you can do something unless you try and once you achieve that part by saying you can, then I think it makes it easier to decide later if you should. That’s just my thinking though. Thanks for sharing and glad you love the wiper glasses idea! πŸ™‚

  5. Such a fun post!! I think that’s a great dream to have!! And yes to self-wiping glasses please!! Ooh VR glasses- WOW! Although I once used VR at a theme park and I ended up really freaked out (it wasn’t even especially good) so now I’m nervous of it lol! And yes a million times over to a teleport machine- that would be incredible! Someone tell Elon Musk quick!! As for other ideas, I’m still waiting on actual hoverboards ie ones that actually float (or jetpacks, that’d suffice)- is it obvious that I really want to try actually flying πŸ˜‰

    1. Hahahahaha! I can’t imagine VR in a roller coaster. I mean I’ve done the one which is sort of VR at Harry Potter world and you’re exploring Hogwarts but it was just really realistic without the glasses. I can see how you’d be nervous by it. OH! I’ll have to do another post expanding cause I think actual jetpacks or hoverboards would be super cool as well! We’re getting close if these videos cropping up would have us believe! Cross your fingers, hehe!

      1. Oh no, it was just in a train carriage (which only moved a little)- it was just the VR was so convincing- at least it was to me, my sister, who usually is worse than me, didn’t buy into it at all. That Harry Potter world one sounds so much more awesome tbh! ahh I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants that!! hehehe *fingers and toes crossed* πŸ˜‰
