It’s no secret that I’m a super huge, nerdy Android fan. In fact, I’m already speculating about what the next OS is going to be called. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Android, they name each OS that comes out after some type of dessert. And not only is it just any desert, it follows the alphabet. So here’s the name of the OS from C (cause the names were generic before C) to the current one, O:
- Cupcake
- Donut ๐ฉ
- Eclair
- Froyo ๐ฆ
- Gingerbread
- Honeycomb ๐
- Ice cream Sandwich
- Jellybean
- Kit Kat
- Lollipop ๐ญ
- Marshmallow
- Nougat
- Oreo
- P? TBD
My current guesses for P are Popsicle, Pancake, Pastry, Poptart. Really rooting for Popsicle though!
Anyway, I got what’s called a subrogation investigation in the mail the other day. Big words, I know. The gist of the letter was stating that an incident occurred 2 years ago that resulted in me going to the ER and the insurance company wanted extra information. Why they waited two years for the information, I have not a clue. So I’m sitting here thinking, I can’t even remember what I had last Monday for breakfast and I’m supposed to remember something from two years ago??
I talk to the husband about it and he suggested that maybe it was when the jerk bit me real good. I told him I couldn’t remember so he suggested I go back and look through Google Photos, find the injury picture (cause I mean you can’t not take a picture of your injuries, especially the wild ones) and check the date stamp on the picture.
If you don’t utilize Google photos, I’m telling you right now, you should. Not only do you get unlimited cloud storage but it’s so easy to go searching for pictures because you can search by dates, faces, names of objects, etc. It’s fantastic! I go through my photos for the date this supposed incident occurred and sure enough:
Husband was right. The date of my incident was my cat bite. So I called the woman and talked to her about it and basically she wanted to make sure it wasn’t some feral cat at someone else’s house because there’s a special claim process you have to go through for that sort of stuff and I told her no, unfortunately it was my own that is lucky he’s still alive. She laughed and then closed the investigation.
Point of all this, besides me sharing a random life story, is Google Photos is great. Every picture I take on my phone is automatically backed up to the cloud as long as I have a WiFi or data connection. Same for videos as well. I wanted to hate this tech at first because the cloud just seemed like a scary place but I’ve lost a lot of photos and videos from years before from computers unexpectedly dying or external hard drives getting lost. There’s even a back up application that uploads photos on my computer regularly as well. It’s such convenient tech.
Do you guys utilize Google’s services even if you’re an Apple person? What is your general opinion of cloud storage? Which “P” dessert name do you think Google should go with? Let me know in the comments below!
I use apple, but I agree that the cloud does seem scary! Where is all of my stuff going, I internally/irrationally worry every time I back my phone up.

I totally understand that! Then I think about what’s being backed up and I’m just like, if it’s ever hacked, there’s a lot of food and cat and screenshots and landscapes, so harmless stuff.

I’m an Apple person and I definitely use google maps on the daily.

Oh yes! I’d be truly lost without Google maps. I’m glad that they make their apps cross platform as well so Apple users can take advantage if they want to. ๐

This post made me hungry ๐ now I wanna switch to an android just for the names (Iโm an apple user by the way)

Hahaha! I was thinking the same while writing it! Making me want all of these desserts! Do you use Google apps at all on your phone or strictly Apple all the way?

๐ค I have Gmail, Google Docs and Google Spreadsheets but only because I need them for school related activities. I think Google Photos is the best thing thatโs ever happened because of unlimited storage ๐

Agreed! You really can’t bear unlimited especially when it comes to memories. ๐

Apple user but definitely use google pics and maps and search… which reminds me, I really should go check out what’s been backed up.
Poptart and Popsicle would be my picks. I hope you update us on the final choice ๐

Oh I use google photos- ever since I realised I could automatically back up my phone with wifi I realised how useful it is ๐ Although I had *no idea* android named their OS after food?! So cool! It would be funny if they went with something like profiteroles ๐

Yes! When I realized that, I was cautious at first and then I was like but it’s literally no risk and it’s free! Haha yes. Android is super cool like that. I wonder if they ever get around to rebooting the alphabet that maybe they’ll go savory foods!

I’m an Android freak too and wonder what the new system will be called. I’m going with ‘Popsicle’, ‘Parfait’, or ‘Punch’ although I would secretly love for it to be named ‘Pez’ cause that’s my favorite candy haha! โค Awesome that you could look back on your injury with Google photos. Great advice! ๐ Thanks for sharing!

Hahaha I like Punch and Pez! A coworker said Peppermint and that’s a good one too. So many choices! Yes Google Photos is quite helpful and nostalgic, haha. You’ll have to try it out if you haven’t already!

AJ is a Google fan. Though Google Photo isnโt something she uses. Does it work on the desktop too? (As a side note, I need google photo for my friggin WordPress Gallery! I can never find the image Iโm looking for. if I could only search โ โangelโ and get the angel picture, or the friging picture of my dream worldโฆ sheesh!) But AJ uses a lot of google services for that reason. Sheโs considering a Google Home/Mini already got Google On Hub with the ability to hit up Google wifi with it and chromecast is like heaven!

Yes! Tell AJ that there is a backup and sync desktop app and you can set it to your photos folder and choose the parameters to how you want it to backup. It’s the same for Google Music as well! If you have a Gmail account, backing up photos is free and unlimited so definitely look into getting on board! I agree about the Chromecast as well. It’s the best thing ever!

I’ve just been thinking about Google Photos so this post was very timely. I have my pics backed up from phone to laptop to server but it’s never a bad idea to have them in the cloud as long as they have the proper security. Thanks so much for the gentle nudge to give it a closer look. As for the next OS, I’m gonna guess Peanut Butter Cup.

Oh yes! I wouldn’t doubt if Google does have backup cloud servers to their backups, haha. Peanut butter cup is perfect!!! I like the way you think Linda and now I want a Reeses ๐
