Romance Fails in Fiction Tag

The Rules:

  • Please PINGBACK to her at Kate @ Melting Pots and Other Calamities. Or just Kate. And PINGBACK TO A SPECIFIC POST.  She won’t see the post otherwise, and she’d like to see it.
  • At the very top of this post is the post I did the pingback for – other can copy that to make it easier if you’d like!
  • You can choose ten romance fails from ANY media you like: books, movies, anime, manga, T.V shows, or Webtoons. You can even mix them up if you want.
  • You can choose funny fails or serious ones; for the serious ones, phrase it humorously. Remember, this is a fun tag! It’s not meant to be serious.
  • Mention who’s who in the fails. (I.E, who fails and who is the recipient of the failure). If there isn’t  recipient, per se, just state the couple (or non-couple).
  • Optional: Rank the failures from least extreme to most extreme.
  • 5 failures at LEAST.
  • Tag as many people as you want, but at least one person.

Thank you James for tagging me in this LOVEly (ha) tag. I’m going to go based off James’ interpretation of the tag and do book, movie, anime, TV show romance fails.

10. Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley from the Harry Potter series

Don’t kill me Potterheads! I’m sorry but that romance just did not work for me. It came out of nowhere and it was just awkward the whole way through. I love Harry but these two just didn’t fit.

9. Inuyasha and Kagome (anime)

Okay, so you have Kagome who accidentally falls into this well and gets transported back to like feudal Japan. She meets Inuyasha who’s half demon dog boy and they end up encountering this monster that pulls this magical jewel from her and shatters it into a million pieces. The whole premise of the show is them going around fighting creatures who have been enhanced by the jewel shards and getting them back together into one jewel. Kagome likes Inuyasha and Inuyasha was in love with his dead gf chick Kiyoko who Kagome takes after thusly, he sort of falls for Kagome but not really cause she always plays hard to get except when Kiyoko spirit comes around then all of sudden she’s jealous. By the end, they kiss maybe once in 170 episodes and then it just kind of ends unresolved.

Have I mentioned I hate love triangles? Well, I still have three more where that came from.

8. Kelsey, Ren and Kishan from the Tiger’s Curse series by Colleen Houck

You can look this book up if you want to. I don’t want to explain it. The only reason I read it was because an ex-friend begged me too and let me just say, this love triangle never, ever makes sense. Essentially Kelsey ends up being in love with both men but seemed to sometimes change her mind depending on the moment? But both need to involved in order to break this ancient curse. I always rooted for her and Ren cause she met him first, but that’s just me.

7. Elena, Stephan, and Damon from the Vampire Diaries

AAAAAAAH! Okay I was completely in love with Elena and Stephan at first but Damon was just 1000x more swoony so I always secretly voted for him. I felt he brought out her true nature more. When they finally got together I felt bad for Stephan and thought about changing my mind but Damon is just so hot! Ultimately she failed with both guys because I don’t know how a girl can fail with TWO hot guys but Elena pulled it off dramatically. (disclaimer, I haven’t finished the whole series yet so don’t spoil it for me cause I know she comes back in the last one!)

6. Tamlin and Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Man this romance failed hard. It was laid out like a dream but ultimately Tamlin turned out to be a big ole passive coward and Feyre fell for someone else.

5. Romeo X Juliet (anime)

This is such a beautiful anime. It’s sort of like the regular story but different. They still die at the end which is a fail but.. well.. I won’t spoil it for you. Just watch it someday.

4. Jane True and Ryu from the Jane True series by Nicole Peeler

Another couple that seemed like the perfect match. Jane is a part selkie and Ryu is a vampire. You can imagine, it’s a pretty odd relationship. It seemed to work for a while but it ultimately failed because shifters should just be shifters just saying!

3. Olivia Pope and Jake from Scandal

It will always be about Olivia and Fitz. ALWAYS! I admit, I had my Jolivia moments because Jake is so hot but the relationship failed. Jake will never get his island in the sun 😦

2. and 1. Cristina/Burke and Cristina/Owen from Grey’s Anatomy

THE MOST EPIC ROMANCES AND THEY BOTH FAILED!!! Burke was so freaking perfect for Cristina. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! But no, the actor had to go and run his mouth in real life so Shonda wrote him in to get booted off. GUYS! HE LEFT HER AT THE ALTAR! It doesn’t get more fail than that!!! Then later on Owen was such a great, if sometimes crazy (he had PTSD moments) fit for her but she just decided to be this fluttery free butterfly. DAMMIT Cristina!!

I’m only going to tag one person this time because I know she’s a romance junky as much, if not more than me: cwhiteweb

If anyone else would like to participate, feel free to do so! I would love to watch and read more romance fails!

Anything But Books Tag

I was tagged in this tag by Patty at MoohnshinesCorner. She has an awesome blog full of book reviews and her life’s experiences. I’ve gotten to know her very well through our love of Darynda Jones. She’s a pretty awesome individual and you should definitely check out and follow her blog.

Note: The image used for the Feature Image is not my creation! It belongs to another blogger; The Girl Who Read Too Much book blog.

One: Name a cartoon that you love

I would have to take it back in time to the Magic School Bus if we’re talking American cartoons but Cowboy Bebop if we’re talking Japanese cartoons. I always loved Magic School Bus. Ms. Frizzle was the best TV science teacher I’ve ever had! Cowboy Bebop is a jazzy, fun-featuring-a corgi anime! Also, Howl’s Moving Castle is a FANTASTIC anime movie. Watch it. You won’t regret it.

Two: What is your favorite song right now?

What’s trending on my radar is Sia’s newest release. Has a great message and it’s Sia. I love her.

Three: What could you do for hours that isn’t reading?

Sleep. And if I’m not sleeping, I’m binge watching Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime, etc

Four: What is something that you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

I love buying socks and receiving them as gifts. I couldn’t tell you how many pairs of socks I have and I like wearing them mix matched.

Five: What is your favorite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about?

I like learning about dog and cat breeds. I worked a lot of animal related jobs and it was and still is fun to learn about new breeds especially with so many mixed breeds out there.

Six: What is something unusual that you know how to do?

I know how to bend the tips of my pointer fingers. Not sure how the skill came about but there you have it, haha.

Seven: Name something you made in the last year and show us if you can.

I made pho for the first time by myself yesterday. My best friend showed me how to make it when she was here and I’m very proud. Pho is a thai noodle soup that has a nice, long process. Took 2 and a half hours for the completed product. And yes, they require tupperware bowls cause I don’t have regular bowls big enough for the portion sizes we eat. 😀

Eight: What is your most recent personal project?

I don’t really have one. I want to tackle refinishing my cabinets one day but I need an extended weekend and more motivation to stop reading a book for more than an hour to make that happen.

Nine: Tell us something that you think about often?

Food. I love eating, like all the time. Every time I leave work, I call my husband and ask him what’s for dinner. It might be breakfast for dinner tonight because I really want to attempt making Millionaire’s bacon.

Ten: Give us something that is your favorite.

This is such a vague question. I have a lot of favorites. My favorite color is purple. My favorite dog breed is pit bull. My favorite food is usually of the noodle variety with the addition of sushi and Chinese/Thai food in general. My favorite month is May because my birthday is during that month and april showers bring may flowers. I can go on forever.

Eleven: Say the first thing that pops into your head.

My work day is almost over. What’s for dinner? hahaha

Tag! You’re it! Thanks for reading. Feel free to participate in this tag if you’d like.

This Is My Truth Now Tag

The Challenge Questions

You’re on your way to a birthday dinner that your friends have thrown for you. When you arrive, your favorite author is having dinner by himself or herself and asks you to sit with them, before you even see your friends or they see you. You have two choices: (1) You can sit with the author but can’t tell your friends that you’ve abandoned them for three hours, or (2) Meet your friends and lose the only chance you’ll ever have to talk with the author. Pick one or the other — no exceptions or communication to your friends to tell them about the author — and explain why.

Can I not tell my friends that same day or at all? I’m sorry but I would ditch my friends. They would understand and if this is all going down in the same restaurant I’m sure a friend will have a bathroom moment and see me and try to act casual about me not freaking out because I’m dinnering with my favorite author!

You’ve got an opportunity to spend a few hours alone “in your bedroom” with a character from any book you’ve previously read. The character tells you that (s)he would like to lock the door and spend some alone time with you. What book and character is it, and do you decide to enter the room and lock the door, or tell them you aren’t interested?

This is such a naughty question! Or maybe I’m making it naughty. If it was Curran from the Kate Daniels series, I wouldn’t think twice. (No shame! He’s a hot ancient lion ok!)

If you could turn any male character from one of your favorite books into a female character (or change a female into a male) in the book or book series, which one and why?

Hmm. I have to think on that one. Harry Potter isn’t my favorite series but I think it would be quite interesting if Harry was Harrieta and to see if the growth and development of the character would still be the same from a female perspective.

What blogger currently on your follower’s list (meaning they follow you too) do you admire the most and why?

Why do you always ask these questions?! They aren’t fair! I admire all of my followers who I follow back because they have different content that I find inspiring in a variety of different ways. Some of my favorites release story snippets everyday, or inspiring quotes or beautiful poetry or 365 word challenges 😛

If you could change any one decision your favorite book character made, what would it be and why?

In A Court of Wings and Ruin, I would have made Feyre a lot less weak and predictable than she was portrayed when it came to saving everyone from the Cauldron. I can’t go into too much detail because there are people who still want to read this book spoiler free!

If you could pick 1 character from a book and 1 character from a TV show you watch (that is NOT based on a book) to be in a relationship together, who would you choose, and why?

I would pair Curran from Kate Daniels series with Lagertha from Vikings. I feel like that’s more of a time period he would fit best in and would be able to handle her no nonsense badassery! I would also pair Alisa Marchenko from Star Nomad with Captain “Mal” Reynolds from Firefly. I think they would make a fantastic space traveling adventure pair!

It’s your last day on Earth. As you are about to cross that final finish line, a mysterious shadow appears, giving you a choice: (1) You can go move forward to whatever comes next for you [based on your own spiritual or religious beliefs], or (2) you can become a character in a book series and exist permanently doing whatever that author chooses to do with you in the book. Which do you choose, and if it’s option 2, reveal the book and author.

There are so many fantastical worlds I want to live in that it would be a crime not to go with option two! Right now I want to be Meg Corbyn in the world of The Others.

If you could steal a pet from someone in any book you’ve read, but had to replace it with a friend’s pet (meaning they wouldn’t ever see their pet again), would you do it?  If so, explain the who and why.

I can’t just steal a pet?? Honestly I would for a very specific friend who I know would love to have her “rescued” pet gone. I would steal Sprig from Stacey Marie Brown’s Collector series because he’s a cute little pseudo monkey and he’ll wax poetic to me about his love affair with honey on mango chips and pass out at random moments.

If you could turn someone from your real life into a character from a book, who from your life, who in the book and why?

I would change my best friend into Cookie from the Charley Davidson series and then I would change myself into Charley because they are #friendshipgoals

Post a picture of the cover of a book you read in 2000 and the book you are currently reading now. (Note: if you weren’t alive in 2000, pick the first book you ever read and tell everyone what year it was from).

My mother preordered Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for me so when I came back from camp in the year 2000 (I was 11 if you must know) it was waiting for me. What I’m currently reading needs no explanation because you will have already read my Written in Amazing post 🙂

Your favorite character (under 18) needs a place to stay for 3 months and asks you if (s)he could stay in your spare room (yes, you have one for the sake of this question). Who is it and what is the reason (s)he needs to stay with you?

It would be Terrelle from the Stormlord Trilogy by Glenda Larke in the first book because she is a runaway slave with water painting powers that are a huge commodity but could also get her killed.

Which of the 365 Daily Challenge posts most describes you? To see them all, you can go here.

My favorite are the A to Z challenges because I did a few and they were fun!

The Rules

  1. Create your own new post and call it “Tag: This-Is-My-Truth-Now” and be sure to include in your tags the words — without quotes — “ThisIsMyTruthNow Tag”
  2. Include these rules when you copy/paste to your own post.
  3. Be sure to thank the person that tagged you and include their responses at the bottom of your post, so someone can get to know them too. Tell everyone something interesting about the person who tagged you.
  4. Include a link to my original post mentioning this blog so we can see how many people choose to play along. Link to cut/paste is:  ThisIsMyTruthNow
  5. Choose 12 bloggers to tag and include a link to their latest post, so others can check them out and meet new people.
  6. Answer all 12 questions in The Challenge Questions section, but replace the 12th question with your own new one around telling the truth or revealing something interesting about yourself — you can leave the existing if you can’t think of something.
  7. Be sure to copy/paste the “Truth or Dare” section at the end of this post. It’s important to the challenge — so you better carefully read it!
  8. If you’ve haven’t been tagged, but you want to play along, you can totally jump on in and post responses to the tag on your blog.

So thank you to James for nominating me on your new tag. I don’t think you need an introduction on my site because you’re an awesome regular and if my followers aren’t your followers by now then they’re missing out!

I tag everybody. If you love book tags as much as I do, this will be a fun one to do! Plus I’m lazy and 12 bloggers is a lot when you have to pick and choose between 100+ people 😛

Real Neat Blog Award

Before I jump into this next book, I’m going to do these awards that have been sitting since middle of May. This is going to be a combination situation because I’m lazy. I also nominate everybody because, again, lazy and because there’s a book calling my name. Shout out to everyone who voted for the Written in Red cover because I lost a whole day reading it! I’ll probably, actually do a book review here because I have so much to say that I don’t think it’ll all fit on Goodreads.

Anyway, I was nominated for the Real Neat Blog Award by Roda and cwhiteweb and I was also nominated for the One Lovely Blogger Award by cwhiteweb (she loves me. can you tell?) and Darie T. I’m sure I don’t have to say this but I will anyway. Click their names, read a post and then click Follow. Trust me, you won’t regret it. They’re all smarter and wiser than me and they’re beautiful people with beautiful blogs.

For the Real Neat Blog Award, I have questions. So, commencing rules then answers

The rules:

  1. Put the award logo on your blog.
  2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  3. Thank the people who nominated you, linking to their blogs.
  4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like, linking to their blogs.
  5. Let them know you nominated them (by commenting on their blog etc.)

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because it was to be a form of retail therapy because the job was driving me insane but also because I was encouraged by a few people that I should share my awesome stories and my love affair with books with the world.

What is the one change you see in yourself after you started your blog?

I guess I see that I have an ability to write. My beginning posts were literally titled “I’m not a writer: I’m a reader” for 20 days straight. Turns out, for whatever reason, I’m writing and people are enjoying so I must be doing a good job.

When do you write the best? I mean, is it when you are sad and moody or cheerful and happy?

I’m an emotional person so I write in whatever mood I happen to be in at the time. Mostly its a half awake state because I stayed up way past my bedtime due to lots of words on lots of pages.

Are your stories/poems happy ones or sad ones, predominantly? Do you think it tells something about the emotions you are going through?

Most of my stories are happy. The world we’re living in right now is not a peaceful place. It’s actually getting worse in my opinion so if I can bring a little nugget of joy to my readers each day then, not only does it make me happy, it gives them maybe 2-5 minutes of happiness as well.

What is the best comment you’ve received on your blog so far?

Oh my gosh. I can’t even answer that. There are too many since I talk a lot which means I comment a lot and people respond but shout out to theorangutanlibrarian for being the 1000th comment on RT!!

Of all your posts, which one do you feel describes you or give us an understanding of perhaps, an element of yourself?

An element of me, I guess, would be I see good in everybody. What I mean by that is, I strive to make as many friends as possible. Not to be social but because everyone deserves to have a good friend. To steal from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to be people’s person. You don’t have to know me well if you don’t want to but you can be sure I will be that friend you can talk to about anything because I listen and because you matter.

Through which other form of art do you express yourself, apart from this one?

You’ve probably noticed by now but I love taking pictures with my cellphone. And also reading, of course, and forcing people to read what I read because I have this obsession with reliving books from other people’s perspectives.

Paper or Plastic?

Paper! It can be recycled, reused, repurposed!

If you could transform into any animal, what would it be?

A sea turtle. Have I mentioned how much I love turtles?

Who is your historical soul mate?

Hmm. Does Robin Hood count? If you have not seen the BBC adaptation you should!

Are you a city mouse or a country mouse?

I’m an in between mouse. I don’t like to drive very far to go grocery shopping but I also do not want to be in the center of it all.

What is your favorite vegetable?

Broccoli. I feel super healthy eating baby trees

Favorite book?

Depends on the genre. I have a list!

Why do you write?

Because sharing is caring and I sort of answered it above.

lovely blog

  1. I am currently eating a really delicious burger
  2. Book withdrawal symptoms is a real thing. I’m barely hanging on writing this post 😛
  3. I had a pitbull/lab mix growing up, named Cinnaman, who was the best dog ever
  4. I’m very active on social media
  5. I love my husband very much
  6. Kiwis are disgusting
  7. I had oatmeal for breakfast

Hope you enjoyed this post! Have fun! See you on the next one!

Where in the World Are You Tag USA

My awesome friend Linda over at Everyone Else Has the Best Titles has created a new tag! It’s aim is for all of us to get to know each other a little better and find a little bit about the town/country we leave in!

What is the Where in the World Are You Tag?

Where in the world is the author of that great blog?  Hopefully, this tag will help answer that question and provide some background info about the locales behind the blogs we love.

You are ALL nominated.  The best part is that it is super quick and easy.

The goal is to get as many blogs involved as possible.  Using the tag WhereIntheWorldAreYou will make it easy to find new blogs from interesting places.

The rules are simple

  1. Share your location being as specific as you like.  Just a country is fine.

  2. If you wish, give a little info on your locality.  Photos are a plus!

  3. If you have a post about where you live, feel free to share the link.

  4. Add the tag WhereIntheWorldAreYou

  5. Post it to your blog replacing the country name after the title with yours.

That’s it.  Only one question to answer and an optional essay.  Just replace the info in your predecessor’s post with your own and set it free.

I am also from the USA. I live in a town called Cuyahoga Falls in Ohio. That’s pronounced Kai-uh-hog-a. There’s also a county and national park with Cuyahoga in the name because the Cuyahoga River runs through them all. Cuyahoga Falls buts up against a well known city called Akron which most people know of because basketball player, Lebron James, is from here. We’re about a 40 minute drive away from Cleveland which is also a well known city many people know of when they think of Ohio. My town is in between city and country. Small city that can be a bit rural in some parts. I don’t have to drive very far to grocery shop or to see a mall. And there’s a strip of road full of all the restaurant chains you can think of which is very bad for my health.

This is what Cleveland looks like at night from an airplane. Ohio is considered Midwest and we border one of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie, which is known for being one of the last bits of freshwater in the nation.

That’s it! Hope you all consider participating!

Liebster Award

Okay, I’m a slacker. I’ve been nominated for this award twice! Thank you to the spectacular James, who I’ve nominated for plenty awards, because I love reading his 365 challenge posts! He’s such a great guy and is so engaging with his blogging audience. Do check out his site. I also would like to thank Renata whose site you should also click on because she’s a strong woman who speaks the absolute truths as well as things she’s learned through her own experiences.

The rules of this award:

  1. Acknowledge the blog who nominated you and display the award.
  2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger gives you.
  3. Give 11 random facts about yourself.
  4. Nominate 11 blogs (tough call, yikes!)
  5. Notify those blogs of the nomination.
  6. Give them 11 questions to answer.

Grab your popcorn here because I have 22 questions to answer!

James’ questions:

What made you start blogging?
It was a random idea between M and I since we were no longer working together

What are the primary content areas on your site?
Most probably my everyday stories and the In Danger installments

What other languages can you speak, read or write?
I can bumble my way through Spanish. Took 2 years in high school and keep my skills brushed up with Speak Tribe app and a friend of mine who’s fluent

Which color best describes your choice in books?
I don’t even know. I’m a colorful person so my books are colorful as well!

What is your favorite of the 7 deadly sins, and why?
I’m going to go with Lust here only because in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Lust was portrayed as a woman who would lead alchemists down her desired path but as the show progressed she desired to become human and ended up helping the brothers.

What other job would you want to have?
Beta reader

What foods can’t you stomach no matter how hard you try? (You must have tried it before)
Bananas and kiwi

What zoo animal would you most want as a pet?
If we’re being realistic, none; but if I had the means, elephant and fennec fox

Who do you live with?
My husband, 2 cats and Turtle

Describe the perfect book.
I can’t because there is no such thing for a girl with my crazy imagination

Which blog that you follow is your must-read every day? Only 1!
The Reader because I look forward to everybody’s posts and technically its one concentrated blog looking place to do so. 😛

Renata’s questions:

How long has writing been a part of your life?
Blog writing has been apart of my life for the last three months but back in high school I loved to write and would take all the writing courses I could; creative writing, poetry writing, Shakespearean writing and even research paper writing

What’s your favorite dish?
Pasta or sushi or soup or waffles… I love food. I can’t have a favorite!

What do you like the most about where you live?
That my state is shaped like a pointy heart! I also love that we have fifteen seasons. The weatherman is always wrong.

Can you describe social media using 2 adjectives? (gotcha there)
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and self-evolved

Have you volunteered anywhere or would you like to? Where?
Yes. I’ve worked in two wildlife rehabilitation facilities in Ohio and an endangered bird breeding propagation program in Maui. I would love to participate in some type of sea turtle conservation with multiple flotation devices strapped to my body so I don’t drown trying to save the beasties 🙂

What movie ending do you hate the most?
So this is an old film but Spitfire Grill has the worst ending!

Can you tell me one stereotype associated to your country?
Black people always associated with fried chicken and watermelon. I suppose it implies our slavery roots in that they were both cheap and it was finger food so we looked like animals eating it, which was our place in society…. Stereotypes suck.

What’s your favorite song?
Oh geez. I need a new question. I love music! Lately its been songs with the word “run”. Run to You – Pentatonix, Run to You – Whitney Houston, Run – Leona Lewis, Runaway – Ed Sheeran, Run the World (Girls) – Beyonce

Would you accept an invitation to become a writer based on your blog posts?
If said person extending this invitation thinks I’m that awesome, then yeah!

What’s your top self-care activity?
My hair. It’s a process and a half to detangle and style it because salons cost money and I haven’t been in a salon that is able to handle my mane (besides straightening it because that’s boring). Most of my hairstyle ideas come from naturalistas on Youtube!

What’s something you love about humanity?
How different we are from one another and the technologies we’ve develop that make it possible to learn about and grow with each other and our surroundings.

And now 11 more facts about me because I’m just full of them:

  • I played the flute, saxophone and baritone in elementary/middle school
  • I got my first pair of glasses when I was in 4th grade and didn’t want to wear them for the longest time because I thought I looked like Harry Potter
  • I am Groot
  • I am a tech nerd. Currently teaching myself a few programming languages
  • I’m on the review team for a favorite author of mine
  • I love blueberries and blueberry flavored things
  • I’ve had Netflix since 2009 when it was $5 a month and you got DVDs in the mail
  • I’ve written a post everyday this month except May 1st because of birthday shenanigans
  • I love anime. If you have not seen Cowboy Bebop or Howl’s Moving Castle, you are seriously missing out on fantastic worlds
  • I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 20 which is pretty rare for kids in America who usually get their permit as soon as they turn 16
  • I am a ginormous classic Disney fan. I collect them on VHS and can recite most of them word for word, song for song. (HAKUNA MATATA, what a wonderful phrase!)

My Questions that are not philosophical, or you can choose to answer the ones above:

  1. If you could have one date with any celebrity, who would it be and why?
  2. King’s Landing or King Arthur’s Court?
  3. Which is cooler: dinosaurs or dragons? (that’s a trick question just sayin’)
  4. Have you ever seen a double rainbow?
  5. Would you choose to fly like a bird and roam the sky or swim like a whale and roam the deep sea?
  6. What’s your favorite Disney movie and why?
  7. If you had the means to invent something, what would it be?
  8. Why did you choose WordPress as your blogging platform instead of say Blogger or Wix?
  9. What’s the one thing that makes you smile every single day?
  10. If you could live in a book world, which one would it be and why?
  11. Do you like pina coladas? (I may or may not be humming in my head)

Coming up with 11 questions was tough! Now 11 nominations?? I’m going to cheat and just pick the last few people who commented on the blog somewhere:

Avid Observer
Poetic Bliss
Mr. Mel

Congrats to the nominees! Participate if you want however don’t feel obligated to do so. If anyone else would like to participate, I nominate you too and feel free to answer right in the comments section below!

Awesome Blogger Award

RT has been nominated for the Awesome Blogger Award! Woohoo! I’d like to thank Nemo over at Beautiful Mind for this awesome (haha!) nomination! Nemo writes short stories and shares beautiful photos of places he’s visited. His stories are truly amazing. He sets the scene really well in your mind and be prepared to get a tug on your emotions sometimes!

Here are the acknowledgements and the rules:

This award was created by miss Maggie over at dreaming of Guatemala! And she says :

“This is an award for the absolutely wonderful writers all across the blogging world. They have beautiful blogs, are kind and lovely, and always find a way to add happiness and laughter to the lives of their readers. That is what truly defines an awesome blogger.”

  • Thank the person who nominated you. Include the reason behind the award. Include the banner in your post.
  • Tag it under #awesomebloggeraward in the Reader.
  • Answer the questions your nominator gave you.
  • Nominate at least 5 awesome bloggers.
  • Give your nominees 10 new questions to answer.
  • Let your nominees know that they’ve been nominated!

And here are Nemo’s questions and my answers:

  • Why do you write?

I write because it’s fun. I’m a reader and a thinker so it’s nice to have an outlet for all of my thoughts. I also like sharing my crazy day stories with you wonderful people. Most of them are funny and laughter is the best medicine.

  • Have you ever experienced a critical comment (justified or unjustified) on your posts or comments? How did you you deal with it?

I have! I wrote a post about how awesome the show Outlander is and how I barely made it through the first 2 books because they were way too long and I got slammed by an Outlander superfan for saying that (I thought it was funny; just sayin!) I told her I’m sorry I upset her but when it comes to books and their television adaptions, there will always be a difference of opinion and I also told her I’m glad she’s a superfan and I’m sure Diana Gabaldon would applaud her if she saw my blog!

  • Do you believe in chance or luck? Or everything is based on logic?

Hmm. I’m a very logical thinker but I do believe in luck. Can you have logic with a side of luck? Is that a thing?

  • Do you believe you have got to read a lot to write?

I’ve been asked a similar question before and I don’t think you have to read a lot to write but I think many of us draw our inspiration from reading, whether it be a book, blog, forum, etc so I do believe that a well rounded read background makes for a good writer.

  • One thing you dislike about my blog ( I know it’s weird, but I need to rectify myself as well 🙂  )

I don’t dislike your blog. I have issues with my own blog because I’m wishy washy but I think your blog is nice!

  • Have you ever tried hypnosis or self-hypnosis?

I have not. It’s never crossed my mind to want to try it but I’m not opposed to trying it if the opportunity arose!

  • If you are given two choices – death for denying to accept a lie as a truth, life for accepting a truth as a lie, what would you choose?

The former. I used to lie a good bit and it’s not healthy. Now I’m brutally truthful and I’m not a fan of liars.

  • Do you prefer working alone in your own way or always prefer to get someone as your partner?

I want to note that this is totally a job interview question in which case the correct answer is I love working with a team but I’m not opposed to working alone 😛

  • How do you define yourself in one sentence?

One sentence?? Geez. Um… I am a down to earth girl who loves her husband, reading, and wants to have as many friends as possible because I love learning about people and going on adventures even if they’re imaginary! (Run on sentence I know)

  • Tag your own favourite post you posted here.

My favorite post… I need to look. I think it’s between Yum! and Keep Calm and Scream. The former because I got a lot of responses back about food combinations from around the world and the latter because it’s hilarious!

Bonus questions because Nemo also nominated RT for the Mystery Blogger Award, which I’ve done, but I like his questions so I’m going to answer 2 of them here:

  • Do you love reading? Name the favourite book and tell the reason.

Reading is life. I breathe to read. I have SO many favorites that this post would get longer than it already is so I guess I’ll say my current favorite author is Lindsay Buroker who writes my favorite series’ Fallen Empire and The Emperor’s Edge. They are both science fiction. The first is a space opera of sorts. It’s set in space and features a badass pilot, Alisa Marchenko and her crew that start out as a simple freighter but ends up getting into some crazy adventures with cyborgs and Starseers. The second one is science fiction steampunk that stars Amaranthe Lokdon, a military official who strives to be commander someday but ends up getting a mission encounter with an assassin, Sicarius, and from there they end up getting a crew together to try and save the future emperor. Look them up on Goodreads and then read them! You won’t be disappointed!

  • If you are given an option to live the rest of the life in Mars – what is the one thing you will essentially take with you? (Of course not water, food etc. like that 🙂  )

My husband so I’m not bored but since he’s not a thing, books; Or a tablet with a thousand books on it.

I nominate:

The Robin’s Nest

I’m going to cheat a little time because I like some of Nemo’s questions so I’m copying a couple:

  • What are you currently binge watching or plan to binge watch?
  • Have you ever experienced a critical comment (justified or unjustified) on your posts or comments? How did you you deal with it?
  • Do you believe in chance or luck? Or everything is based on logic?
  • Android or Apple?
  • What’s something on your bucket list that you hope to do in the next 5 years?
  • Hot sub or cold sub?
  • If you are given two choices – death for denying to accept a lie as a truth, life for accepting a truth as a lie, what would you choose?
  • Polar bears or Pandas?
  • If you could travel, all expenses paid, to anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

Mama always Said

It’s Mother’s Day! Happy Mother’s Day to everyone that has human babies, fur babies, feathered babies and scaled babies!

In the spirit of today, I want to do another one of Jame’s A to Z challenges. But first, a little bit about my mother.

My mother was a single mother. I never really had a father figure in my life. There was a point when I thought I did but that’s a story for another day. She worked really hard to raise me and my sister. We weren’t rich but we weren’t poor either. She always made sure we had clothes on our back, even if they weren’t brand new, a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. As a child, it was a little sad because she worked 3 jobs so I was barely able to see her. Also, any extra curricular activities, band, volleyball, track — she was never able to come to any of the meets or concerts. But, let me tell you, every BIG achievement — awards ceremony, graduations, my mom was there and she made sure everybody she knew was there too. As an adult, I’ve learned to respect the hustle. You do what you have to do to make sure you and your children are taken care of. My mother is everything to me. ❤

Now into the fun part. Whenever my mom would place food in front of me that I didn’t like, she would always say, “You better not waste that food! There are starving kids in Africa who would love to have this meal so shut up and eat it!” If we rebelled, we’d be forced to sit at the table until we ate the food. Let me tell you that’s a torturous form of punishment especially when you got plans to play tag with the neighborhood kids! But I was also a stubborn child. I would always think I could outlast my mother so I’d be like, “That’s fine. They can have it! Guess I’ll sit here all night!” I never actually said that out loud. Oh hell no. You did not talk back to mommy without consequences. So I would sit there for hours and be the last man standing! Victory! Except it wasn’t because my dumbass ended up starving. Mama always wins, yo.

Now that I’m an adult, I can eat (or not eat) whatever I want so here is my list of foods that I love and hate:

A – Apples (love)

B – Bananas (disgusting)

C – Cucumbers (unless it’s on sushi then I love) (hate)

D – Dumplings (love)

E – Egg foo young (love)

F – French fries (love)

G – Garlic bread (love)

H – Hamburgers with ALL the fixings! (love)

I – Iceberg lettuce (hate)

J – Jambalaya (love)

K – Kale (gross)

L – Lima beans (hate)

M – Milk (vomit)

N – Noodles (love)

O – Okra (love)

P – Peanut butter (love)

Q – Quesadilla (love)

R – Rice (love)

S – Sushi (love x infinity)

T – Tacos (love)

U – I don’t even know. James put unagi eel but I love that so… there’s not much else

V – Vanilla ice cream (love)

W – Waffles (love)

X – So I googled and someone listed Xmas cookies! I’m gonna go with that hahahaha (love/hate relationship)

Y – Yams (depends on who cooks them)

Z – I got nothing. All I can think of is Zebra cakes and I’m not a fan.

And again, Happy Mother’s Day!!

Mystery Blogger Award

Today seems like a good day for this!

I’ve been nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award. Am I a mystery? Maybe. I did admit to having alien origins. I’m not sure if there are any rules besides nominating more people and answer the questions asked of me. I just kind of did a copy pasta situation. If more rules exist you’ll have to check Mark’s blog since he so graciously nominated me; thank you! You should check out his blog anyway because he writes the most thrilling stories! Each day is something surprising and different and his imagination is wild.

Here are my questions (and answers):

What does writing do you for you, as far as your day-to-day mood?

You know I never really saw myself as a writer until now. I was a quiet child. You could always find me with my nose in a book somewhere. You still can. Everyone knows me as this giant book nerd and everyone is always curious what I’m reading. I took a few writing courses in high school; creative writing, poetry writing, Shakespearean writing and even research paper writing. I think then I loved it because I liked school and learning new things. As I grew older, writing just never stuck; maybe because technology exploded (I’m also a tech nerd). Now, I kind of live for this along with reading. I really enjoy sharing my random with everyone and it usually puts me in a great mood.

Do you believe that one does not need to read, in order to write?

That’s an interesting question. I think anyone can write without having a well read background but I think in order to find the continued inspiration to write, you have to have some kind of reading background.

Do you have a personal favourite blog post you have read in the past month?

I can’t say it’s a particular post but cwhiteweb has been slowly torturing me with her 6 word romance serial. I love to read so I pretty much look forward to any and all stories you all share.

I nominate:

My questions:

  • What’s your favorite book or book series of all time?
  • If you could write for a TV show or movie, which one would it be and why?
  • If you could sum up your personality in 3 words, which words would you choose?

I’d like to end my mystery with a discovery! If you haven’t seen nodosaur yet, check it out. It’s a 110 MILLION year old dinosaur that was found pretty much intact. It’s so well preserved, it looks like this thing could wake up tomorrow! The coolest thing I’ve ever seen!

Versatile Blogger Award

It’s Monday. I stayed up obnoxiously late reading knowing I had to work…. Easy post!

Last week my good buddy James was nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award. Congratulations!! His blog is in the business of book reviews and 365 day challenges. I recently participated in one and they’re quite fun. Click his name and check out his site. He’s one cool dude. As per these awards, you are to nominate some of your blogger friends and James has nominated me! Exciting stuff. Let’s get to it:

  • You have to thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog! (Being kind)
  • Link the nominees and inform them about their nomination (passing the love, that was given)
  • Nominate at least 10 bloggers of your choice
  • Share 7 facts about yourself (being truthful)

  1. I think bananas are disgusting; taste, texture smell — vomit inducing
  2. I have an addiction to reading. I’m completely obsessed with books. I go to book sales and buy books I may never read but I want to have Belle’s library someday
  3. I love soup. I can eat soup anytime of the year– winter, summer, doesn’t matter to me
  4. Two of my toes on my left foot are the same size. It’s weird and implies alien origins
  5. I think Android is far superior than Apple. I haven’t and probably will never own an Apple device
  6. Lucy Lawless and Kathryn Winnick would me turn lesbian
  7. I think Idris Elba is the sexiest man alive. I told my husband that if I ever got a chance with him I would take it in a hot second. He’s a little bitter about that but since it will never happen except in my dreams he’ll get over it
  8. Bonus fact (because I have two celebrity facts): I’ve never broken a bone before or had serious surgery before (knock on wood!). The worst I’ve ever done in my 28 years is fall on my face while rollerblading downhill and got 9 stitches in my chin.
