Facebook Friday 11/10/17

Hey, hey it’s Friday! A chilly one at that, at least in Northeast Ohio.

Facebook Fridays is a weekly segment of RT where I share some fun stuff I observed on Facebook this past week. I share a fun meme or screenshot, a video that resonated in some capacity and a photo of my own.

For the meme, I’m deciding to do something a little bit different. I came across this meme on Twitter actually and it’s a 30 Day challenge where each day you post a book couple that follows the topic of the day. I have to admit, I’m usually really bad at challenges but this one, I really got into. Today is day 10 and I would like to share with you my answers so far (because I can’t help spreading the book love especially when it comes to romance) So here’s the meme:

Vaquita Revisited

Today’s endangered animal has been discussed on RT in the past. In fact, it was one of the first 5 posts when this series was started. I would like to revisit the species today to shed some more detail on this unique creature dubbed “the panda of the sea” because I came across an article that just makes me so sad for it.

My Latest Obsession

In the last two weeks, maybe even three weeks, I’ve only read one book. That’s seriously unheard of for me. I can usually devour at least 3 books a week. So you can imagine, and I’ve said it before, my Goodreads challenge is desperately lagging behind. I’m pretty positive I’m going to fail it this year. It doesn’t help that I’d made it my mission to only read books I’ve never read before. Do you know how hard it is to not do a reread when the books are literally staring at you on your shelf?? Suffice to say, I’m never going to do that again and next year’s challenge will be filled with ALL KINDS of rereads. Plus, since I’ve gotten in the habit of leaving reviews on Goodreads, I figure I should probably go back and review the 400 or however many books I’ve read again… eventually. There’s still quite a bit of books I’ve read that are missing from my read list — like Harry Potter for example. Anyway, I digress.

What Goes In…

Good morning my friends!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted a funny story and I feel like we all could use some laughs. As you all know, last weekend, my husband and I went on vacation to Florida with my best friend and her husband for a nice, relaxing getaway in this fancy suite. I still plan to talk about that trip… eventually. I always have so many thoughts in my head. I’m totally contemplating writing about Poldark tomorrow to convince all you lovely souls that you should watch this show. We’ll see.

The Power of Nature and Tech

So I was late to work today.

But what I saw on the way was pretty intense. Last night, most of Northeast Ohio experienced a pretty, heavy duty storm. There was lots of rain, thunder, lightning and wind. I like when it storms in the fall mostly because the wind becomes a natural leaf stripper and makes cuts how many times we have to blow and rake leaves. I was watching Poldark (my new obsession) and watching the cats because my jerk gets a little bit of anxiety during storms, when my friend texts me and tells me her power when out. She lives out by where I work; about 45 minutes away. She told me luckily they have back up generators at her house but it didn’t sound good out there. And I wondered if my husband and I would lose power as well but there wasn’t much flickering going on really. Then about 15 minutes later she tells me a tree fell on her boyfriend’s truck. And I’m like, “Are you serious??” and she says yes and send me a picture. He drives a heavy duty pick up truck and this tree split his cab in half. I told her I was really glad it didn’t hit their house and thank goodness for insurance.

Facebook Friday 11/3/17

Hey, hey! It’s Facebook Friday!!

Facebook Fridays is a weekly segment of RT where I share some fun stuff I observed on Facebook this past week. I share a fun meme or screenshot, a video that resonated in some capacity and a photo of my own.

So I had to reach back a bit to find some cool Facebook funs to share with you all today since I was on vacation and I’m saving some of those pictures for next week. I found a meme, a video and picture! How lucky is that? Let’s get started. I shared a bookish meme that definitely applies to me on more than one occasion:

Mexican Long-Nosed Bat

In the spirit of Halloween passed, today’s endangered animal is the Mexican long-nosed bat or Leptonycteris nivalis. For starters, not much is known about the range of this species. The Mexican long-nosed bat is reported to be seen in the states of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas as well as Mexico and Guatemala. The reason the range is not specifically known is because scientists have not been able to pinpoint the migratory pattern of the species. Population size of roosts can range from zero to 10,000 individuals in a single year but it is suspected that the overall general population of the species is definitely declining. Fun fact: When you think of a flying creature, it’s usually a bird however, bats are the only mammals that can fly.

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. How often have you heard that growing up? As a child, I remember getting breakfast in was easy because my mother made it readily available or there was always cereal to eat. As a teenager, it was always Pop-Tarts. Pop-Tarts were never bad for you back then. They were actually considered very healthy and then the times changed and things with high fructose corn syrup and white bread became very bad for you. Then you hit college and it became all about sleeping more than anything because you had that school grind to follow each day. My dorm room was located in the same building as the dining hall. In addition to that, I used to work in said dining hall so each morning, breakfast was easy because all I had to do was walk downstairs and fill my plate buffet style. That only lasted until I moved into my own apartment at the end of that first year. I still had the dining hall available but that required too much walking to get there so I started skipping breakfast. And that’s sort of trickled into my adult life ever since.

Transition

Hello my WordPress lovelies. I don’t know about you all but I am exhausted. My husband and I got home a little after midnight and since I foresaw this happening, I texted my boss and begged asked if I could have one more day off because I was pretty positive there was no way I was going to wake up 6AM and go to work. Because she’s amazing (and I think she really likes me), she told me the office will manage one more day without me and to stay home and rest.

Miniature Hiatus

Hello friends.

This is Nel checking out for a few days. There won’t be Endangered Thursdays or Facebook Fridays this week and there also won’t be a post next Monday. I’m pretty bad at scheduling posts. I prefer to write the morning of cause my thoughts flow out of my interesting brain freshly. The husband and I are finally taking mini vacation in the sunny state of Florida with my best friend and her husband. I’ll still follow my serial writers cause I need to know what happens in my stories (I sound like an old lady who watches soap operas 😉 ) and I’ll check a few of my favorites’ posts but other than that I’ll be off WordPress. However, you can catch me on Facebook or Twitter. If you aren’t my Facebook or Twitter friend that’s kind of sad and you should remedy that situation in order to get exclusive happy pictures before they hit the blog in the next couple weeks as I share my latest tales with you all. I’ll be goooone til November.
