The Playlist Shuffle Tag

I was so graciously tagged by Claire at Brizzlelass Books for this fun award! If you haven’t checked out her blog yet, you should. She’s an avid book blogger who is very engaging with her audience and a cool person. πŸ™‚ So here’s the thing. I have amassed quite an MP3 collection over the years in my Google Play music account and I used to put it on shuffle while driving to and from work. But then my husband bought Tidal and now I just listen to whole albums or NPR on the way to work and Pandora at work. So I went into said Google Play account and hit the shuffle button to see what happens. Here are the rules and following those are my songs chosen by a robot.

The Rules

  • Put your music on shuffle and list the first 15 songs to play (no cheating).
  • Tag 10 others to do it as well.

Beyonce – End of Time

I am a Beyonce fan. Mostly of her newer stuff from the album 4 and newer. Her songs are so upbeat! This was actually my “omg we were just pronounced married!” walk back down the aisle song. I know its called something else but the name is eluding me at this moment.

The Sleeping – Don’t Hold Back

I am not ashamed to admit that I learned this song from playing Guitar Hero 3 back in the day. I didn’t have much of a rock background before guitar playing video games so this is a time that I thank video games for expanding my horizons.

Void of a Legend – Triptyq (Antoniette Costa and Kevin “K.O.” Olusola

If you like acapella, cello and beatboxing combined, you’ll love this track!

Killswitch Engage – My Curse

Guitar Hero 3 and you had to unlock a certain amount of levels in order to be able to play this song! (Also, the main singer is a black man, whaaat!)

Sia – One Million Bullets

I adore Sia. She is so underrated.

Michael Jackson – Remember the Time

If you have not seen this video, you should watch it. Just once! And then imagine me doing the same dances the “Egyptians” are doing because everytime I hear this song I get up and I mostly do them, hahaha. I mean it’s MJ! You can’t not dance when you hear MJ.

Donna Burke – Kaze No Ne

So this apparently came off of a Final Fantasy video game but I learned about it from a random CD mix a friend used to send me back in the day and I love this woman’s voice.

Tracy Chapman – Fast Car

Classic. So many covers of this song on singing competitions.

Gorillaz – Kids With Guns

I mean it doesn’t get any more varied than Gorillaz

Rush – YYZ

Guitar Hero 2….. Hey! I went from not having any hand eye coordination to playing on expert! And yes, we played Rock Band too and still do on occasion if you were wondering.

I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did cause man it’s been a while since I’ve done that. We’re lucky we didn’t get some Disney tunes this round cause trust me I have a least two Disney soundtracks in that shuffle πŸ˜‰ . Now I’m thinking of listening on my way home and see what else I have in there! Isn’t it so cool how many songs you have memorized? I feel like if my entire schooling and work career were taught using song, I’d be a genius.

Oh yeah! Tagging people! Umm….

I’m lazy. If you feel like doing this tag go for it! Link me back. I would love to know your musical tastes!

Have you heard anything off my list? If you haven’t and deigned to listen to a couple tracks, did you like what you heard? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Killswitch Engage? Hard core Nel, woo! Mine would be pretty boring as I binge listen to artists. Currently have three artists in my playlist so not much variety! Enjoyed the little peek into your playlist, thanks πŸ™‚

    • I know right! Video games can sometimes open up your world for real. The way your playlist is how I listen to music now because you can’t really set a variety on Tidal so it’s binge listening to favorite albums.

  2. That was awesome! I used to love playing Guitar Hero as well. Good times! Loved every one of these! Tract Chapman will forever be a fave. πŸ’•

My favorite Beyonce song ever is “Drunk in Love.” I was secretly hoping it was going to pop up for me. I think we have to do a part 2!

Such a fun tag and I’m so glad you did it! πŸ’–β™©πŸŽΆ

  3. I’d never heard of Sia, and if this track is typical, I’ll have to check her out. My son recognized Donna Burke – Kaze No Ne (Sound of WInd) in two notes. Then he said, “Oh, it’s the English version.” He has the Japanese version too, sung by YAE. The composer of the music is a woman named Kumi Tanioka. I liked it too. I thought I hated Gorillaz based on what I’ve heard from my older son’s collection, But I could like Kids with Guns. SO this has been an educational post for me. I’ll do mine. You won’t recognize any of them, lol.

    • Never?! She is pretty underrated though. 1000 forms of Fear is my favorite album from her but her latest one is good too. I almost posted the Japanese version but I figured people may enjoy the English version better, haha. As for Gorillaz, their self titled album is good as well as Demon Dayz (my favorite!).
I can’t wait to see your shuffle and learn some things myself! πŸ™‚

  4. I’ll be honest Beyonce scared me, I’m completely terrified of her music. But I loved Void of a Legend, that’s the guy you told me to look up isn’t it? Really need to do that he’s super talented!
And Killswitch Engage! Nel you legend! Such a super band, reminds me I have a fun tour bus story I should share about those guys! Hmmmm

    • Terrified?? Hahaha why’s that??
Yes! That’s Kevin Olusola! He’s with Pentatonix but he also dabbles with his own stuff. Look up Renegade. That’s a solo cello/beatbox track.
Haha I have video games to thank for this extended side of me. πŸ˜‰ Would love to read the tour bus story!

  5. Sia, Beyonce, Michael Jackson and Tracy Chapman for sure are on my list of favourites. I’ll take a listen to the rest later on today. Thanks for sharing Nel.

    • Yes!! I’m glad you liked Void of a Legend. It’s one of my favorites for sure! I agree about the video games! My playlist could have totally went all Disney or all video game/anime jams but this was definitely a great varied mix. You should consider doing this tag if you haven’t yet! I’d love to see your playlist! πŸ˜€
